Oedipus Rexipus

The story of Oedipus Rex begins before the young Oedipus was conceived, his parents were told that their son would kill his father and marry his mother. After hearing this, parents decided to brush it off until their child was born and they conceived a son. They sent their son off with a shepherd asking him to take the baby to a high altitude of the mountains. The shepherd however, showed pity upon the child and let him live with a secondary shepherd far away from the kingdom where his parents lived. The shepherd who sent the young Oedipus off assumed that this was an ideal substitute that would suit both parties. However, when young Oedipus grew old, he heard stories of a sphinx that terrorized a town. He travels to the town to try to answer a riddle of the sphinx and stop the plague that the sphinx had bestowed on the town. On the journey to the town, Oedipus runs into a traveler and kills him. Ha ha ha… he gets to the town and is told that the person who solves the riddle will be reworded with kingship and the hand of the queen in marriage. He solves the riddle correctly and is pronounced king, not knowing that the traveler was his biological father, and the queen was his biological mother. Ha ha aha. The prophecy was correct, and Oedipus is disgusting.
